For Tournament Organizers

If your event does not require teams to book through a hotel program, say so clearly. Families compare events long before they register, and lodging freedom is one of the first things they look for.

Proudly Non-Stay-to-Play

Families choose where they stay.

Qualifying events can display this badge and appear in the No Stay To Play directory. Basic listings are free.

Why lodging choice helps your event

  • Teams can say yes faster when the total trip cost is predictable.
  • Families with loyalty points, relatives nearby, or specific needs are not shut out.
  • Fewer registration questions about hotel rules and fees.
  • A clear, public policy reduces confusion and complaints during the event weekend.

Eligibility in plain English

Your event qualifies if participation is never conditioned on lodging. Teams may book anywhere, with no required hotel, no required housing portal or housing company, no approved-list-only rule, no room-night minimum, and no buyout fee or penalty.

Your event does not qualify if any of those conditions apply to traveling teams — even when local teams are exempt, and even when the requirement affects only some divisions of the event.

Optional hotel partnerships are welcome

You can still offer a hotel block, a courtesy rate, or a negotiated team discount. Those partnerships do not affect eligibility. The only thing that matters is that using them is genuinely optional.

How review works

Submissions go to a private review queue. Nothing is published automatically, and a submission by itself does not create Official Source Verified status. Once reviewed, a qualifying event is listed as Official Source Verified when a public source establishes the policy, or Organizer Confirmed when it rests on your attestation.

Verification stays attached to the specific event you submit. If you run several tournaments, each one is reviewed on its own.

Organizer, series, and local host

Accurate submissions make review faster. Three roles are tracked separately:

  • Organizer / governing organization — who owns, sanctions, or operates the tournament.
  • Series — the recurring series or circuit the event belongs to, if any.
  • Local host organization — the club or association running the event on the ground, if different.

A local host's general lodging policy is never assumed to apply to your event. Tell us what applies to this tournament.
